Nana Okura Gagné is a cultural anthropologist at the Graduate School of Asia-Pacific Studies, Waseda
University. She formerly taught at the Department of Japanese Studies at The Chinese
University of Hong Kong. Her research explores how global capitalism impacts local
ideologies and existing sociocultural relations, including gender relations, family
relations, and socio-economic relations. She is the author of
Reworking Japan: Changing Men at Work and Play under Neoliberalism (2021, Cornell University Press), and she has published in
American Ethnologist, Anthropological Theory, Ethnography, and
Journal of Contemporary Asia.
