          Translated abstract

          Translated abstract

The authors present a literature review on the relations between professions and organizations, inspired by the contributions of Charles Derber, Mirko Noordegraaf, Henry Mintzberg, and Richard Scott, among others. Based on this review, they propose various hypotheses on this relationship, drawing on the concept of professional office work and an abstract analytical model for the relationship between bureaucratization and professionalization that unfolds into two typologies, applied to social work in the non-profit Third Sector in Portugal. This application considers the contents of various studies conducted in Portugal on the dynamics of this subsector's development.
