          Abstract

Abstract The “Spatial Capital” is a type of individual and collective resource that is acquired from the objective material conditions (opportunities and advantages) and subjective conditions, inherent to the individual and his household (capabilities and experience). These conditions make it to identify the of appropriation of the territory through daily mobility practices. This work proposes to analyze the factors that have configured the different potentialities and real possibilities of mobility of people residing in two vulnerable neighborhoods of Cali’s commune 20. A mixed methodology was developed with 375 participants between 15 and 70 years of age, whom were women (63%), and of low income. The information was collected through a survey that explored socioeconomic data, skills, to means of transport, and modal choice. Twelve semi-structured interviews were also conducted, addressing experiences, perceptions, and mobility habits. The findings of this study indicate that the challenges of moving within an urban space according to conditions mediated by a social, spatial, economic, and temporal context can generate a differential appropriation of the territory. In this sense, in the absence of inclusive mobility opportunities, the social and territorial inequality manifests in inequitable popular strategies of adaptation, resistance, and appropriation of the city.
