Abstract

RESUMO Isabel Urbana de Albuquerque Gondim (1839-1933) foi uma das pioneiras nos fazeres historiográficos do Rio Grande do Norte. Professora primária de Ribeira, bairro situado na cidade baixa de Natal, ela exerceu, ao longo do último quartel do século XIX e dos dois primeiros decênios do século XX, uma significativa contribuição na heurística documental e na escrita de livros voltados para o ensino de história. Pautados nessa premissa, objetivamos analisar os fazeres historiográficos de Isabel Gondim a partir de suas atividades de pesquisa e de ensino no tocante à história pátria. Para empreender esse objetivo, mobilizamos, como fontes de investigação, as notícias publicadas em jornais brasileiros e os livros escolares escritos pela autora, que permitem entender a sua concepção de pátria em um contexto marcado por importantes mudanças políticas.

ABSTRACT Isabel Urbana de Albuquerque Gondim was one of the pioneers in the historiographic works of Rio Grande do Norte. Primary teacher in Ribeira, a neighborhood located in the lower city of Natal, throughout the last quarter of the 19th century and the first two decades of the 20th century, she made a significant contribution to documentary heuristics and the writing of books aimed at teaching history. Based on this premise, we have the scope to analyze Isabel Gondim’s historiographical achievements based on her research and teaching activities regarding national history. To undertake this objective, we mobilized as sources news published in newspapers and schoolbooks published by the author, which allow us to understand her conception of homeland in a context marked by important political changes.
